clouds gives the landscape a special drama

Some more images that I did this week during the trip to the port of Rio de Janeiro. The sky with these clouds gives the landscape a special drama; the late afternoon light just crowned the moment, making one of the most beautiful photographic sessions I’ve done in recent months. I wish I had more time to visit picturesque places and witness late afternoon like this more often.

Rise/Set

rise and set

The golden hour of photography, the minutes before sunset is one of the most magical moments that the landscape photographer can experience. It’s precious minutes, where the photographer feels that some kind of magic is happening, and he’s totally engrossed in his art. The feeling of being in the here and now totally takes over. This is one of the great pleasures that the art of photography can provide; both for the photographer and for the observer of the photograph. Before yesterday I was doing the images from the previous post, Marines, and when leaving the location I came across this wonderful sunset. Separate this image for this photo challange, but I’m tempted to do another post with pictures from that day.

Yesterday was a very cool day. I was recording a video for the Jornal do Brasil, in an event that is happening in the port of the city. It is a meeting of the navies of the Latin American countries, where frigates from different countries meet in a public exhibition, with the aim of strengthening the ties of friendship between countries. Between one video and another I was able to make some photographs, and I confess that I had more fun with the stills. 🙂 I have not updated for some time and my instagram and neither blog. I do not always find time to just shoot photography, since my life now revolves around videos. Which, of course, makes me very happy, but photography is also a great passion.

my first long exposure photo

Maybe you that follows my blog have seen this landscape before. Actually the Arpoador is a clich̩ of the city, that is, not only in my blog, but in any postcard or reference to Rio de Janeiro. I was passing nearby and I finally decided to use the variable ND filter I had bought months ago for a long exposure photography. I tried six or seven shots, and curiously the first one was the best. [ISO 50 РF22 Р28mm Р20 sec]. But I soon realized that I have a lot to improve on this long exposure technique. I still need to understand the best weather conditions and the best time. I noticed that the cloud displacement could end up spoiling the photo. In this case here, it gave an effect that I consider the limit of acceptable; the others were a bit ugly when it came to capturing the movement of the clouds. Which leads me to think that a day of complete clear or completely cloudy skies are better components for this type of photography. I want to study this subject further.

I miss the mountains, but…

I love landscape photography, specially the one that is in the mountains. Wild places really is a thing that has a power in my imagination. I am saying that because at the current moment of my life I have to stay in the city. There’s no possibility right now that I can just go with my backpack and tent, start a journey to places like Patagonia or Peruvian Andes, only to mention two places that I consider to visit in an abstract future. So, I have the seascape – the completely opposite object of my intro – but is what I have to practice exposure, framing, colours and other photography elements.

my life

I’m at a good time in my life. I’m pretty focused on what I have to do, and I feel free. My only responsibility is to evolve in what I do, in what I love to do – images. I’m where I wanted to be, and to continue being like this depends on me and on my evolution. Aware that nothing is forever and that everything is in motion. I just have to watch out and give my best. These photos are just a few random places I had to be during this week for a shoot. While filming, I tryed to make some pictures too. I turned a kind of youtuber (only behing the camera) to a local newspaper. My new profession seems to me to be very modern. I were hired to filming, interviewing and editing. I spend the days chasing  stories about the city and interesting people. All that I wanted to do.

maybe next print

I do not really see myself as an artist. I am like a promise that is never fulfilled. Someone is always in the learning stage. This week I might print this landscape here from Rio de Janeiro. Just to remember that this city has beautiful curves when we look only for them … good week to all!

carnival

Here in Rio de Janeiro we are at the carnival. It’s a time of year when the whole city seems to be in a frenzy, in an ecstasy, people go crazy, driven by alcohol and drugs. When I got up in the morning I decided to take a look at this climate of the city, maybe it would give me some good pictures. Upon arriving at the beach of Ipanema there was a crowded crowd, drinking caipirinhas, vodka, beer, smoking … I went alone. Walking around the streets, I tried to listen to somebody else’s conversation, trying to understand where all that happiness really came from. I realized there was a reason everyone was dressed up … I felt like a fish out of water. The sun was burning on my shoulders and I decided to sit on a waterfront kiosk and drink some coconut water (where this picture was taken). Since I did not like the party, I realized that I would not be able to get good pictures. It is necessary to flow with the environment. It was not my case today.
