Some more images that I did this week during the trip to the port of Rio de Janeiro. The sky with these clouds gives the landscape a special drama; the late afternoon light just crowned the moment, making one of the most beautiful photographic sessions I’ve done in recent months. I wish I had more time to visit picturesque places and witness late afternoon like this more often.
The golden hour of photography, the minutes before sunset is one of the most magical moments that the landscape photographer can experience. It’s precious minutes, where the photographer feels that some kind of magic is happening, and he’s totally engrossed in his art. The feeling of being in the here and now totally takes over. This is one of the great pleasures that the art of photography can provide; both for the photographer and for the observer of the photograph. Before yesterday I was doing the images from the previous post, Marines, and when leaving the location I came across this wonderful sunset. Separate this image for this photo challange, but I’m tempted to do another post with pictures from that day.

Yesterday was a very cool day. I was recording a video for the Jornal do Brasil, in an event that is happening in the port of the city. It is a meeting of the navies of the Latin American countries, where frigates from different countries meet in a public exhibition, with the aim of strengthening the ties of friendship between countries. Between one video and another I was able to make some photographs, and I confess that I had more fun with the stills. 🙂 I have not updated for some time and my instagram and neither blog. I do not always find time to just shoot photography, since my life now revolves around videos. Which, of course, makes me very happy, but photography is also a great passion.
Another image of the smooth and desaturated palette series. Rio de Janeiro is a very curious city, looking at the sea, especially on a day like today, rainy and without anyone on the beach, it is possible to convey the idea that this is a beautiful and peaceful city. As everybody knows that is not true, unfortunately. There is a song here whose translation says:
it is very easy to talk about such beautiful things, facing the sea but with your back to the favela.
A few weeks ago I posted an image where I mentioned my visual research about a certain mood (soft, usaturated) of color palette when taking landscape/seascape photographs. In this sense, yesterday, I could find a time, and a suitable climate to follow up in my aesthetic research. I am creating a series of images of this style in order to print it on fine art paper (canson or hannemuller) as object of decoration.
In order to give a dramatic picture, sometimes it is easier to highlight the sky; specially on a day with clouds like this, when photos take on this most dramatic aspect. Perhaps I have given too much importance to the sky in this case, for it fills two-thirds of the picture, but what was below the hills did not interest me either. Sometimes it’s hard to find the perfect frame.
